Brandon Erickson Star Wars DVD

I am quite pleased to be the first person to market an arcade video-gaming performance that's by another player.  In this case, it's a player whose skills are a shooting star that's off the charts - namely, Brandon Erickson.  His game of choice is the hotly contested title Star Wars, and in less than a year of serious play at the difficult TGTS settings, he's topped every score (much less person) in history, other than the world record, held by the incredible David Palmer.  On January 2, 2005, Brandon made a personal best 20,891,403 point score.  Even though the game took just over four hours, I've been able, through advanced compression techniques, to fit the entire performance on one DVD.  Fortunately, the quality is still almost identical to the original master tape.

So that you can get a taste of this great performance, I've set up a clip below that shows the beginning part of his game - just click the video window, or the play button, to start it up.  Of course, be assured that the DVD has markedly better detail and quality than this small preview does !  In addition, the DVD is marked off in 6 minute length chapters, to allow for ease of skipping ahead in the game.  After Brandon winds things down (he actually had to voluntarily stop his game, on his last shield, as the arcade he was in (the famous Ground Kontrol) was getting ready to host a private party event), he briefly comments on the game.  For more exclusive commentary from him, check out the text below the video clip.

The cost of this historical performance is just $10, plus a $2 shipping fee, for a total of $12.  But wait - here's an option that I think will be a popular one; Brandon has hand-signed and numbered a series of 10 of these DVD's (actually, the case it comes in !), and included a written "inspirational nugget of Jedi philosophy", just for this release.  This limited edition of his DVD is available (until they sell out) for just $3 more, bringing the total to $15.  Also, anyone who orders this DVD (in either pricing option), along with my Crystal Castles - the DVD, will get free shipping on the extra disc (a savings of $2).

So, don't wait, and lose out on getting the numbered edition - click on the DVD option of your choice below to send a secure payment via PayPal (using either a PayPal account, or your credit card, with no PayPal account needed).  For more information on my history of doing business (on the Internet, and in general), you can check out my PayPal page.  Also, be sure to also check out all of my gaming-related items here, including even more Star Wars and Crystal Castles goodies, plus: arcade game marquees, posters, and signs; a number of rare Twin Galaxies items; popular classic arcade titles for your PC; and, a whole lot more...

After watching the DVD I sent him, here are some notes and comments of interest from Brandon:

"I skimmed through the DVD and it looks good.  I like the opening screen; I think it pretty much gets the job done in a simple and effective way.  I dig the cover of the DVD itself - pretty cool!  Nice job :)

"As I was watching some of the beginning of the DVD, I was reminded of a few things that I thought I would mention.  If you listen to the audio, you'll notice that there is a conversation taking place in the background.  The conversation is between my friend David Foster and Bill Carlton (of Asteroids fame).  Watching the DVD, I recall now that they were carrying on a conversation right behind me for quite a long time, and Bill was watching me during a significant portion of it, as was my friend Dave until the end.  Also, right before Bill left when I was around maybe 14M (? - don't remember exactly) he blurted out some loud grunt of encouragement that was actually more annoying than helpful when it happened.  Bill just doesn't understand that tournament gaming requires waaay more concentration than marathon gaming.

"On the DVD I could hear my friend Dave asking Bill, 'So what is the longest period of time that you've actually stayed up at all ?'  They were apparently discussing Bill's prospects of staying up long enough to get the Asteroids record (probably rather slim, in my opinion), and that was my friend Dave's way of trying to cut to the core of the issue."

Some final thoughts from Brandon, about his constant battle with gawkers:

"For the last couple of weekends I've been using a laminated 8.5 x 11 sign that reads,

WORLD RECORD
ATTEMPT
IN PROGRESS
DO NOT
DISTURB

And at the bottom it says in smaller letters "If you have any questions, direct them to the arcade staff, NOT TO THE PLAYER!", or something to that effect.  But even still, there are a few bothersome people who have started trying to talk to me even with the sign there !  This weekend I might try experimenting with earplugs to see if it would be a net positive or net negative."
